Which is better: TV wall mount or stand?
There is no definitive answer to this question as it depends on personal preferences and the specific needs of each individual. Some people prefer TV wall mounts because they save space and can be positioned at the perfect viewing angle. Others prefer TV stands because they are easier to set up and provide more stability for the television. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to decide which option is best for them.
TV & Media Furniture
TV and media furniture is designed to hold your television and other media devices, while providing a stylish look for your home. There are many different types and styles of TV and media furniture available, so you can find the perfect piece to match your décor and needs. Whether you want a simple stand to hold your TV, or a more elaborate entertainment center to store all of your media equipment, there is a piece of furniture out there that will suit your needs.
What to Look for in a TV Stand
When shopping for a TV stand, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, consider the size of your TV and make sure the stand is big enough to accommodate it. Second, think about the style of the stand and make sure it matches the rest of your furniture. Third, consider the material of the stand and choose one that will best match your needs. Finally, think about any special features you might want, such as storage space or cable management.
What’s the difference between a TV stand and an entertainment center?
A TV stand is a piece of furniture that is designed to hold a television set. An entertainment center is a larger piece of furniture that includes space for a television set, as well as additional storage for other media devices and accessories.
How to prop up a tv without a stand
Determining where to place the TV
There are no clear rules on how far away it is safe to watch TV, but there are certain guidelines. To calculate the distance, multiply the screen diagonal in inches by a factor of 1.56 and convert inches to centimeters, multiplying another by 2.54. You don’t need to measure to the centimeter, but it doesn’t hurt to use it as a reference point.
Required tools for installation
If you think that just a TV on the wall – it’s too boring, there are many options how to decorate it: with the help of furniture modules and niches, frames made of wood and plasterboard, LED-lighting.
Tip: You should not hang the TV over the fireplace, as many people do now. Only if you are not 100% sure that you have calculated everything correctly. When the fireplace is heated, the plastic casing does not always withstand high temperatures and will begin to melt. By the way, the wiring can also get damaged. In addition, the light from the fire will distort the picture quality. You decide whether you can hang the TV above the fireplace in your case, but it is better to attach it at the side and at least at a minimum distance.
If you have firmly decided that the TV will be hung up rather than installed, then you need to decide on the mounting method.
Lessons on mounting without a bracket
If you do not have a mount for the TV, and there is no desire to buy it, you can hang it without a bracket. How to do it – now we will tell you.
The final version looks like this:
mounting the TV without the bracket
Of course, if you need to tilt or rotate the TV, you’ll have to buy a factory bracket. But if you want a simple budget option, here it is (plus it’s convenient to hide the cables).
Now we’ll tell you how to hang your TV on a bracket.
Almost always a wall bracket comes with the TV. How it will be fixed depends on what the wall is made of. If it is brick or concrete, there is no difference in which particular place the mount will be located. But in our homes, walls are often covered with drywall (under wallpaper or plaster). If the TV is small and light (like a 22-inch, for example), you can mount the TV it directly to the drywall.
There are special butterfly shaped dowels for this. If it’s big and heavy, however, don’t do it that way. Plasterboard is not a very strong material: there is a chance that it will not cope with the weight, and the construction with the TV will collapse. In such a case, it is recommended to mount the brackets in the profile.
If the gypsum board was installed by the frameless method and there is no profile, strengthen the frame of the wall. And this involves the dismantling of its part and a lot of work.
Tools. which you will use:
Choosing the height of the TV set
When installing a TV, people often make the same mistake: hanging it too high. Place the screen in line with or slightly above your eyes. If you set the panel too high, you’ll have to constantly recline your head than earn a pain in the neck. It is not very good for your eyes either.
Also the picture will be distorted (especially if the TV has no tilt function).
But there is no “correct” height. It is selected depending on the ratio of the size of the device to the room.
Tip: To figure out how high to set the TV, try experimenting to figure it out. You’ll need an assistant to do this: two people hold and carry the TV, and a third person determines the correct height by observing the screen from different locations and positions.
If the screen hangs at eye level, you use a conventional mount, if higher – take a tilt (so the viewing angle is 90 degrees).
Choice of bracket
There are many models, but the main types are only 3. They differ in adjusting the position of the screen (ie adjustability). How you choose the bracket and hang the TV will determine the comfort of viewing.
Fixed designs.
The basic modification, thanks to which the panel fits flush to the wall. For flat panel TVs use these mounts of VESA standard, which complement the equipment.
Inclined designs.
Allow you to mount your TV above eye level and adjust the angle of view to the situation: today you watch TV lying on the couch, tomorrow – sitting.
Tilt-and-turn designs
The most flexible variant. A TV attached to the wall with such a design can be tilted and rotated as desired. This means that you can move it away from the wall and rotate it so that it is directly in front of the viewer. Ingodas there is nothing else to do but hang it in a corner (for example, when you don’t want to hang the TV over the fireplace or close to a window). Then this type of mounting is a must.
Measuring and checking the installation dimensions
Next in the article we will tell you in detail how to hang a TV on a bracket. This will be especially necessary if you have plasterboard with a profile as a covering.
Study the instructions.
1. Note the holes on the back of the TV.
2. Remove the screws from the holes if the manufacturer put them there.
3. You may be lucky and still have the trim plan after the renovation. If not, you will have to look for a drywall profile.
It comes in metal or wood. In our homes more often use the first.
Tip: Use a magnet to find it. If the profile is too thick, and the magnet does not detect it, borrow a metal detector somewhere: this device is sure to work. If the profile is wooden, you can knock on the wall. A full sound means drywall, a thin sound means the profile.
5. Drive a small nail where you think the profile is. If the nail goes in easily and evenly, it’s drywall, If you have to exert effort, you hit the profile.
6. After you have decided on the location, mark the profile with painter’s tape (overcome your desire to draw on the walls with a pencil). Then mark the location of the TV. Use a level to make sure everything is level.
Installation process
Step 1
Drill the primary holes so that they line up with the holes on the bracket.
Step 2
Place the bracket against the wall and align it with the holes you just drilled.
Step 3.
Screw the dowels into the holes (this is where you’ll need a friend’s help: one to hold, one to twist). Use a screwdriver if necessary. Make sure the construction is level.
Step 4
Before mounting the TV on the wall, decide how the wires will be hidden. Ideally, you should decide right away where the TV will be located and put all the outlets there (a few regular electrical outlets for the TV itself, one for the Internet TV). Make sure that the wires are hidden behind a panel.
Step 5
Hang your TV on the bracket. Tighten the nuts so that the panel fits snugly. Make sure that the mount is secure.
Step 6
Turn the unit on and check how it works.
Installing the TV on the Ceiling
There are many different ceiling mounts for TVs available in stores. But if you have a private home with a loft and are more into handmade, there is one non-trivial way to mount your TV. To hang it from the ceiling the way the instructions suggest, you’ll need:
130 cm of metal profile cut with a hacksaw into 6 equal parts;
A pair of parts of a black tube with a diameter of 2-3 cm (short and long);
wooden board;
bolts, washers and nuts;
screwdriver.
The sequence of operations is as follows:
1. Screw the first 2 parts of the profile to the back of the TV.
Installing the TV on the ceiling first profiles
2. Attach the first part of the tube.
Installing the TV on the ceiling short tube
3. Attach 2 more parts of the profile to the tube, only with the reverse side.
Install TV on the ceiling second profile
4. Attach the last 2 parts of the profile to the tube, but parallel to the previous parts.

5. Finish the attachment with the long part of the black tube.

6. Attach the assembled mount to the board that will “hang” the TV from the ceiling.

7. Make a hole in the ceiling and slide the entire structure in there with the big tube down.

8. Run the cables through the tube.

Where to put the TV
We advise you to place the TV set not according to feng shui, but in a place where after watching TV you will not have a pain in the eyes, neck and back.
Decide for yourself where to place it: living room, bedroom, kitchen, kid’s room, office and even bathroom (there are aesthetes like you).
Tip: Avoid placing the TV close to the window. This causes glare on the screen, which causes eye strain.
Do not put it near batteries, as well as near any other heating devices.
You can install the panel in the kitchen, most often it is built into the furniture. It is necessary to think carefully about where to place the TV in the kitchen. All possible sources of power, heat, water and light must be taken into account. Do not forget to include how the wires will be hidden. Preprotect the walls and ceiling, where necessary.
Sometimes it is much more convenient to hang the device on the wall or ceiling (especially in kitchens with a minimalist design and minimal garnish). For wall mounting, again, a bracket with a tilt-and-swivel mount comes in handy, thanks to which you can rotate the screen as you want.
You can put the TV on the fridge, if it is not too high, or at a sufficient distance from the viewers. Otherwise you have to tilt your head back a lot.
There are many ways to mount your flat panel TV.
Choose the ones that work best for you, but remember a few rules:
1. The right place. The panel should not be exposed to direct light and should not be placed near heaters and other sources of heat.
2. Proper height. The panel should be at eye level or slightly higher. Setting it too high is fraught with distorted images and, most importantly, health problems.
3. Fixing it correctly. It should be able to support the weight of your TV, no matter how big it is. And be flexible enough to adjust so you can position the screen just right.
