Samsung QLED 4K The Terrace exterior TV review

Outdoors in total comfort.

When the weather is warm, you just want to go outside, especially at the cottage. It’s a pleasure to sit on the summer veranda, sip refreshing drinks and enjoy pleasant music. Watching your favorite movie or TV series on the big screen can make such a day even more enjoyable.
But dragging the TV from home to outdoors and back every time is a thankless task. And not every panel can withstand the sudden onset of rain. However, there is a rather simple solution – to buy an exterior QLED 4K The Terrace TV from Samsung. Let us tell you about the model in all the details.

Protected from everything

Standard TVs are designed by engineers to be used exclusively indoors. Because of this, to take such devices outdoors is fraught with their failure. Conventional panels are afraid of any, even the slightest vagaries of the weather. Temperature fluctuations and precipitation can break the device on the first day, and direct sunlight simply will not let you enjoy the content – the stock of brightness is not enough for the user to clearly see the image on the screen.

The Terrace exterior is not afraid of these problems. The thing is that the panel is protected against moisture, dust and heat to IP55 standard. In simple terms, the TV set will withstand even the rain. In addition, the producers “hardened” the device in such a way that it can work practically at any air temperature – from -31 to +50 degrees Celsius. (When the temperature drops below -10 degrees Celsius, it is recommended to use the “Cold Weather” mode for a stable start). This means that you can leave it outside for months and not be afraid that soon you will have to pay to replace the device. By the way, the remote control is also protected against moisture and temperature changes under the IP56 standard – no need to pack it in a cellophane bag.

Quality at the level of

The picture quality will not affect even a bright sunny day. The screen is equipped with a special anti-reflective coating, which reflects light from external sources and increases the contrast of the picture. By the way, the display supports a maximum brightness of 2000 nits – such reserve is enough in any weather. The brightness is automatically adjusted, so there is no need to get into the settings as soon as the sun disappears behind the clouds. However, the manufacturer does not recommend to put the TV in the open sunlight.

We would like to tell you more about the screen, because it is nearly the main component of our device under review. A giant 75-inch diagonal display (there are versions of 55 and 65 inches) has a resolution of 4K (3840×2160 pixels) and refresh rate of 120 Hz. This means that the frames replace each other extremely fast, and the user sees a very smooth image without plumes and noticeable tears. So you can enjoy both an action movie and play a console game with pleasure. To connect the external signal, an HD Base-T Receiver is used here: it allows you to place the TV at a distance of up to 100 meters from the signal source.

Perfect image

Color rendering in The Terrace is also up to the mark: 100% Color Volume technology together with Direct Full Array 16x direct backlighting provides excellent color gamut. In addition, support for HDR10+ extended dynamic range is claimed – dark scenes are clearly distinguishable on the screen.

As for the sound, the audio system is also geared for outdoor use. The power of the speakers is 20 watts – this is quite enough to hear all the details. In addition, there is support for Dialog Enhancement technology, which enhances the voices of the characters on the screen during dialogues and monologues. The audience is sure not to hear the denouement of an important scene.

You can see the scale.

The heart of the exterior TV is Samsung’s proprietary quantum processor. With its help, the TV is able to scale almost any image to the native 4K format. For example, if the user turns on a 1080p movie, the artificial intelligence will analyze the input video signal, minimize extraneous noise and restore lost details. In other words, it will enhance the picture so that the user will not even see any trick (because there is none).

There are two the most convenient ways to view the content. The first, and most obvious, is to choose one of the dozens of streaming services. Built-in support for Smart TV functions (running on the proprietary Tizen OS) allows you to download OKKO, ivi, Kinopoisk and other popular programs for watching movies and TV series to your TV. Bloggers and streamers can be watched on YouTube and Twitch, respectively.

Screen mirroring

The second option is to transfer the image from a mobile device. The most interesting is if the owner of the TV has a smartphone of the same brand: simply bring the Samsung phone to the TV frame, and the content is automatically transferred from the small screen to the big screen (Tap View technology). However, other users can also transmit picture and audio without wires. For Apple devices there is support for AirPlay 2 technology, which allows you to stream from your iPhone, iPad, MacBook or iMac. Well, Android owners can download the Samsung SmartThings app and connect to the TV using it. This is done literally in a couple of clicks.

There are times when you want to watch everything at once: for example, a new episode of your favorite detective series and the final of a cybersport competition. An extremely convenient feature Multi View allows you to do this on the big screen, dividing it into two parts. On one side will be the content from the TV, and on the other side will be the content that is currently being broadcast on the user’s phone. It is convenient that there is no need to look from one device to another.

The perfect choice for country houses

It is difficult to overestimate the advantages of Samsung’s exterior TV. The Terrace can withstand practically any weather – you don’t have to cramp your style to keep it out of the rain when it’s unexpectedly poured from the sky. The display with anti-reflective coating adjusts the brightness so that the owner was comfortable to watch the content both under the bright sun and in the dark. The powerful quantum processor literally fine-tunes even medium-quality content so that the picture looks good on the huge 4K screen.

In August, buyers of The Terrace will get a special soundbar together with the TV. It can also be placed outdoors, because the acoustics is protected against moisture by standard IP55. This device is a masthead for those who appreciate not only the picture, but also the quality sound.

If you’re thinking about putting a TV in your summer veranda, The Terrace will be a good companion for cozy outdoor gatherings.
